Selling

We buy and sell books that have commercial value, specialising in books about architecture, art, design, history and philosophy. In short, we buy non-fiction books about Asia, Australia, the Pacific and Western cultures. We want academic works and other rare and antiquarian non-fiction books (and some magazines). We define good quality books as having influential authors, good production values, quality illustrations or a fascinating subject matter. We collect retro-style and fashion titles.

Sell us your books

  • We will base our offer on the book's condition as well as international and national supply and demand.
  • We reserve the right to decline any items brought to us.
  • We can visit your home if you have more than 50 books and live in Sydney. Alternatively, you can bring smaller quantities to our Roslyn Street shop. Please phone 02 8065 3110 to confirm.
  • We want books that are free of damage, underlining and highlighting, etc.

We do not buy

  • Books in poor condition. This includes highlighting; underlining; foxing; torn pages or covers; moisture, mould or mildew damage; excessive odours (e.g. cigarette smoke); stains; or heavy wear of any kind.
  • Ex-library books.
  • VHS, cassette tapes, DVDs, CDs or LPs.
  • Fiction, children's books, cookbooks and self-help books.
  • Reader's Digest condensed books.
  • Time-Life books.
  • Textbooks, almanacs, study guides, travel guides, computer books, etc.
  • Encyclopedias and dictionaries.
  • Any title or subject that we are presently overstocked on.

Selling more than 50 books

If you want to sell more than 50 books, please email us at info@crossartbooks.com to discuss the best way to proceed. Please address these questions in your email:

  • How many books do you want to sell? You can count a couple of shelves, get an average and multiply by the number of shelves to get an estimate.
  • What subject areas are you selling? (Not individual titles.) See our category list above.
  • Have you already sold or disposed of any of your collection to friends, relatives or dealers?
  • Where are your books located?
  • If contacting us by email, please include your phone number.
  • Please include photos of the bookshelves in which the spines are legible (don't photograph each book individually) — photos are much more helpful than lists and faster to create. Please allow up to 72 hours for a response.

In general terms, and considering their age, would you describe them as:

Fine

Very Good
Show minor signs of wear, but no tears, soiling or other significant defects.
Good
These books have complete text pages, but show signs of wear, soiling or minor defects.

Tips for packing boxes

We encourage you to pack your books in a sturdy box to avoid damage. Please use boxes that a single person can carry. Pack the box fully to the top and along its sides to prevent it from getting crushed in transit.
